My RA monk
Recently i decided to learn to heal in RA so i could farm glad points more easily. After some testing i decided to go with a variation on a blessed light monk.
Hero points-
14 divine favor (major rune)
9 healing
9 protection
9 tactics
equiptment- 5 energy sword of defence + pvp shield and judges armour
Skills-Sig of devotion
blessed light
RoF
healing touch
healing burst
mend condition
divine intervention
balanced stance
In an hour of testing i thought it did pretty well. I earned a glad point and my team beat 1 TA team and barely lost to a very skilled one. Most of my healing came from Sig of Devotion so i only had trouble with energy when i spammed stupidley. I brought shield and sword to add to my defnce because as a monk you are ussually the #1 target. This build has as much armour as a standard Hammer war so i found i took less damage. I brouht balanced stance because i found i died more often when i was sitting on my butt
I want your opinion on having a shield, is it worth the energy loss because i only have 35 as of now? Also i am not sure if all of my skills are doing me good. I find that i barely cast Rof and divine intervention but i dont really want take them off my bar. Fianlly i am having trouble with hexes so i am wondering if i should switch to secondary mes so i get hex removal and E management.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, Healing Burst and Blessed Light are both elite skills, so I'm wondering which of them you have and which one you don't.
As for the energy management- You don't need to run a shield as long as you kite, and you shouldn't fear KD enough that you need balanced stance, but the secondary is up to you.
I would suggest switching to Mo/Me and swapping Balanced Stance for Inspired Enchantment and Divine Intervention for Inspired Hex. Both of them combined will help a lot with your energy management, and Inspired Hex will give you more hex removal.

If you want a high defense monk, I'd go Mo/A with Dark Escape over Mo/W with Balanced Stance. Getting knocked down does suck, but with Judge's armor, a shield, and taking half damage with DE, a 4 man team will have a very hard time killing you. Plus you can kite with DE. Otherwise, Mo/Me will give better emanagement as Bloodied said.

Sorry i didnt mean healig burst i meant the one where you heal another ally but your prayers are then disabled for 7 seconds. Yesterday i went Mo/me with hex removals. I found it much easier to deal with wither and panic builds and i always had energy but i had a lot of trouble when a team had 2 warriors or 2 assasins on me. Basically i got shocked took half damage then i used reversal and get shocked again. Then by the time i got off my next heal i was at about 10 hp and was basically screwed. So im not sure what i should do. Also going with Dark escape and a shield would be pointless because i wouldnt get the armour bonus that comes with high tactics.

Gift of Health is actually better if it's the only Healing Prayers spell on your skillbar. I wouldn't recommend using it on a pure healer because you'd be blacking yourself out for 7 seconds.

I would never recommend a pure healing build in RA -- don't tell me the 10s recharge on Dvine Boon has killed off the boon prot monk?
RoF
Mend Condition
Mantra of Recall
Divine Boon
Gaurdian
Inspired Hex
Sig of Devotion
hex breaker
If you are intent on going heal build
Inspired Hex
Distortion
healing touch
signet of devotion
channeling
blessed light (or WoH)
Dwaynas kiss
mend condition
You will need distortion to keep you alive, & channeling hopefully to recoup some of the lost energy. WoH is the big heals Devotion + inspired hex will also help with e management. Mend condition, necessary condition removals. Healing touch -- you are going to need to heal yourself.
This build unfortunately spreads your atts thin across 4 lines.

Nothing stops you from switching between a shield and a focus. Use the shield until you're low on energy then swich to a focus that gives you more energy.

Exactly. Start off with shield for added defense, then switch to focus if you get low on energy. You can also have an additional swap with a +15 energy focus for emergencies.

Blessed Light is the way to go. Takes a little more Energy Managing skill, but when played correctly, is much more effective than boon IMO. A great bar that I always run is:
Blessed Light
Prot Spirit
RoF
Mend Ailment (you want to mend yourself too in RA)
Signet of Devotion (good to top off bars without wasting energy)
Gift of Health (nice cheap heal)
Inspired Hex (free hex removal and energy other than BL)
and Power Drain (takes ALOT of practice but has an enormous net energy gain)
Atts:
9 inspiration
8+1 healing
8+1 prot
11+1+3 Divine
Try it out!

Blessed Light is more versatile and keeps the team alive better against all sorts of problems like multiple conditions, hexes, power blocks. I've had mesmers disable my elite, disable my signets, disable all my protection prayers, and still been able to keep the team alive very well.
However, it's not as survivable as boon prot IMO. I die a lot more as a BL monk than as a boon prot.

Agreed. I started playing BL in arenas recently and I love the utility of the build. The main problem is self defence, since my only self heals RoF and Sig of Devotion (also BL itself, but it's not effecient unless you have conditions and/or hexes). I bring Distortion to help my survivability. Kiting and emanagement are critical, but it's a great build overall.

For someone who mentions e-management as critical im suprised you bought distortion :/ I faced a monk doing that, every time my needling shot was evaded I just grinned, the monk mustve lost about 30 energy in those 5 seconds.

Well, distortion isn't something you use all the time. But it does come in handy when you're getting knocklocked or shock/eviscerate spiked. Plus to screw the attack chains of the assassins that are so popular in RA. Knowing when to use it is important for emanagement, just like knowing when or when not to use BL or any other skill.
